Conveyance time

Letters to Denmark’s major trading partners in Europe normally reach the addressee within 2-4 working days. If the contents require customs clearance for a country outside the EU you should expect the letter to take an extra working day.

Contents

You cannot send just anything in a letter abroad and the rules may vary from country to country. To a certain extent you can get more detailed information on this at post offices. Exact information is available from the embassy or consulate of the country in question.

You should always check yourself as to whether the item you are sending requires customs clearance in the receiving country and whether its importation is permitted. As the sender you will be responsible for any consequences if the contents you have sent are not allowed. If sending a letter containing valuables, cash, precious metals, etc. you should send it by registered post or as an insured letter.

Please note, however, that not all countries accept such contents sent either registrered or as an insured item. Contact Post Danmark for further information.

Accompanying paperwork

If your letter contains only ordinary correspondence you can send it without any accompanying paperwork. If you want to send a letter with contents requiring customs clearance to a country outside the EU you must complete customs papers with a precise description of the contents and its value for customs purposes.

If the content is less than DKK 2,379 you should complete a green customs label which you stick on the letter. If the value is over DKK 2,2379 you must complete one or more customs declarations instead. You stick the top section of the green customs label on the letter.
