Parcels to The Faroe Islands, Greenland and international destinations

If you want to send parcels to the Faroe Islands, Greenland and other international destinations you can choose between two different postage streams, each represented by a colour.

The two streams are distinguished by:

  • the time taken for the parcel to arrive
  • the price you pay.

Maximum weight
You can send parcels of up to 20 kg to most of Denmark’s major trading partners. See Prices to The Faroe Islands, Greenland, and international destinations or ask at the post office.

Contents
You cannot send just anything in a parcel abroad and the rules may vary from country to country. To a certain extent you can get more detailed information on this at post offices. Exact information is available from the embassy or consulate of the country in question.

You should always check yourself as to whether what you are sending requires customs clearance in the receiving country and whether its importation is permitted. As the sender you will be responsible for any consequences if the contents you have sent are not allowed.

Accompanying paperwork
You must complete an international address card when sending parcels to the Faroe Islands, Greenland and other international destinations. Complete the front only, which is an address label.

When sending a parcel to the Faroe Islands, Greenland or other international destinations you must specify what is to happen to it if it cannot be delivered to the addressee.

You can choose:

  • to have the parcel returned
  • to have the parcel destroyed.

However, not all countries offer both possibilities. Unless instructions are given otherwise, if the parcel cannot be delivered to the addressee it will be returned to the sender who must pay the return postage. If the sender gives up the parcel he must pay any postage, duty, etc. which is not recovered from the sale of the contents of the parcel.

For non-EU countries it can be necessary with extra customs. Further information on costums documents ask your local post office.

Carriage time
When your economy parcel will arrive at the recipient depends on which country you send to. The post office can give you more detailed information on the carriage time to the individual countries.

If you are sending a parcel as a "Postpakke udland" to Denmark’s major trading partners in Europe it will normally arrive within 2-3 working days. If the contents of the parcel require customs clearance for a country outside the EU you should expect it to take an extra working day.

Posting
Parcels to the Faroe Islands, Greenland and other international destinations must be taken to the post office.

In each case you keep the bottom copy of the address card as a certificate of posting/sender’s dispatch copy.

Delivery
Electronic tracking (Track & Trace)
Using the bar code on the parcel Post Danmark can track the parcel when the receiving country is one of the following:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Luxembourg
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • UK
  • USA

As a minimum you can get information on where and when the parcel:

  • was posted
  • was sent from Denmark to the receiving country
  • arrived in the receiving country
  • was delivered to the addressee or when an attempt was made to deliver it

You can get this information here on Post Denmark’s home page (Track & Trace) or at the post office. The information generally takes one day to be recorded, so the earliest you can get information on delivery is the day after a parcel should have been delivered.
